Meet the Founders
Security leaders helping startups build trust -- without slowing down innovation.
Nick Leghorn
Co-Founder & Managing Partner
Connect on LinkedInNick's passion for the technical and operational areas of cybersecurity started early, spending most of his high school career in the early 2000's building websites with his friends -- and, as one does with friends, trying to take down their websites while defending from the same kinds of activities on his end. Following that passion Nick graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Security and Risk Analysis and has spent his career helping bridge the gap between technical teams and business decision makers, identifying what security controls would provide the best return on investment for actually reducing risk to the business. Nick also is about to graduate from Texas A&M University School of Law in Spring of 2026 with a Masters of Legal Studies degree focusing on Cybersecurity Law and Policy.
In his career Nick has worked across a number of roles that span the breadth of cybersecurity, from front line investigation and incident response roles through to Chief Information Security Officer for tech companies. Previous employers include Rackspace Hosting, Mitel, Indeed, The New York Times, and Bluecore.
With Secure Start Partners Nick focuses on helping smaller and medium sized businesses by performing risk assessments of their security posture and their security program, and being able to help consult and assist with implementing a security program that maximizes risk reduction and achieves their business goals in as cost effective a manner as possible.
Sarah Triplett
Co-Founder & Managing Partner
Connect on LinkedInSarah discovered her passion for cybersecurity governance, risk, compliance, and security program strategy while applying to graduate programs in 2014 while she was completing a Chemistry & Statistics degree at Texas A&M University. She earned her Master's in Information Security Policy & Management from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016 and has since built a career helping organizations align strong security foundations with real business goals. Sarah is driven to partner closely with clients -- meeting them where they are and guiding them thoughtfully as they mature their security posture. She prioritizes her passion for leading and guiding with empathy and brings that attitude to her daily life as a professional, wife, and mom.
Sarah has held information security leadership roles at General Motors, Indeed, The New York Times, and FanDuel. Across these organizations, she has built and scaled GRC programs, led internal and external audit efforts, and helped design and implement enterprise AI governance initiatives.
Today, Sarah brings this experience to Secure Start Partners, working with clients across industries to design right-sized security roadmaps, achieve required compliance, and build resilient programs that support growth -- without losing sight of the humans behind the work.
